Terms of use

Terms of use for the specialist library at the Department of Mathematics, the Department of Computer Science and the Computer Centre on 17.5.1991.

Due to the general regulations for the use of Kiel University Library from 1 June 1977, the following terms of use are issued for the library of the Department of Mathematics, the Department of Computer Science and the Computer Centre.

The provisions of §§ 5, 6, 8-10, 12 of the terms of use of Kiel University Library, which concern the administration of the library, are not affected by this regulation.

§ 1 The library serves the scientific work of the Mathematical Seminar, the Institute of Computer Science and Practical Mathematics and the Computing Centre. It is a reference library. The books may only be removed from the library rooms in specially regulated cases (see § 3 and § 4).

§ 2 Primarily the university members are authorized to use the specialist library.

§ 3 Those working full-time in research and teaching at the Mathematical Seminar and the Institute of Computer Science and Practical Mathematics and the Computing Centre can borrow books, they need for their scientific work, from the library for use in their workplaces at the institutes mentioned above. It is not allowed to take books and magazines home. For this lending prepared pre-printed borrowing cards must be completed and handed over to the supervisor or, outside opening hours, placed in the designated box. The return of the book occurs exclusively to the supervisor. In order not to burden the supervisory staff additionally, every borrower has to fulfill the required borrowing formalities without being asked. Journal volumes may only be lent for use in the workplace on a daily basis in exceptional cases, but it is possible to photocopy journal articles in the library. It is strictly forbidden to remove individual magazines from unbound journal volumes from the library.

§ 4 Not full-time or temporarily employed university members who have a permanent workplace in one of the institutions listed in § 1 may borrow books with the written consent of a full-time member or the director of the specialist library for use at their workplace. The same formalities apply as in § 3.

§ 5 The opening hours of the library will be announced by notice.

§ 6 Anyone who uses the specialist library consents to the applicable terms of use.

§ 7 Everyone is obliged to treat the books with care, to refrain from painting and commenting and to return borrowed books at the earliest possible date. The user is liable for loss and damage. The director of the specialist library decides on compensation.

§ 8 Users must treat each other with consideration and must act in such a manner that others are not disturbed; in particular, it is not permitted to bring coats and bags into the library rooms. Instructions from the staff must be complied with. It is not allowed to eat and drink in the library rooms.
