In the last two decades Bourgain and Burq-Gerard-Tzvetkov developed a well-posedness theory for nonlinear Schrödinger equations on compact manifolds in subcritical regimes. We are interested in a scaling-critical problem: The quintic NLS on three-dimensional compact manifolds with initial data in the energy space. We will present a general strategy for solving this Cauchy problem and recent results for specific manifolds. This is based on joint work with Daniel Tataru, Nikolay Tzvetkov and Nils Strunk.
