An incidence structure is a projective plane if and only if the dual incidence structure is a projective plane.

This simple observation implies the following general principle.

Duality principle: Given any theorem on projective planes, then the dual theorem obtained by reversing the roles of points and lines is also a theorem for general projective planes.
