Kiel Symposium on Discrete Algorithms, September 12-14, 2018

Kiel Symposium on Discrete Algorithms and their Applications in Marine- and Life Science – An Indo-German-Perspective, Kiel University, September 12-14, 2018

on the occasion of the 60th birthday of Prof. Anand Srivastav

Organizers: Dr. Claudine Leonhard, Dr. Volkmar Sauerland

Complex optimization problems require both, a mathematical structure theory and advanced algorithmics, high-performance and big data computation. Without efficient discrete algorithms fundamental problems in marine and life science cannot be solved, e.g. genome assembly with billions of reads, cancer radiation therapy or the simulation of marine biogeochemistry under global circulation.

The aim of the symposium is to bring together researchers from mathematics, computer science, marine- and life sciences, who rarely would meet at disciplinary conferences and to launch an interdisciplinary dialogue. Some of these applications have been pursued in cooperation with Indian institutes, which adds the specific Indo-German aspect to the symposium.
